Practically Preschool

Our Practically Preschool program is designed to be an introduction to the experience of school. As a “bridge” to preschool, our enriching playgroup approach provides a setting for children to explore, learn, and grow. Our small class sizes (maximum of 6-8 children) provide an intimate setting in which to explore the world of the classroom. Our program uses a “stepping” up approach to help transition children between the four levels in our program. This subtle transition allows the children to feel comfortable and supported while the role of the parent/caregiver slowly diminishes, giving the child the opportunity to gain greater social and emotional confidence. Our teachers offer a nurturing environment full of guidance, encouragement and support.

Playgroup

1-1.5 Years

PARENT/CAREGIVER PARTICIPATION

The Practically Preschool Playgroup class is designed to provide an intimate and relaxed environment for developmental stimulation. Together with their caregivers, children will have the opportunity to develop positive social skills and understanding about sharing and cooperative play. Through the use of story time, songs, open play, and art, children will begin to be comfortable in the classroom setting. Ms. Nanette will lead the transitions from one activity to another through guided, positive directions. Our Playgroup aims to inspire curiosity, exploration, communication development, and positive social and emotional interactions.

LEVEL 1

1.5-2 YEARS

PARENT/CAREGIVER PARTICIPATION REQUIRED

In this 45 minute long class, children participate alongside their grown-up partner – taking the lead once they feel comfortable and have an understanding of the routine of the class. Singing, art projects, a read-a-loud, and even more is packed into this first class experience.

LEVEL 2

2-2.5 YEARS

PARENT/CAREGIVER PARTICIPATION OPTIONAL- PHASE-OUT

At just one hour, this class shifts towards more independence. Initially, grown-up partners join the class until their child feels comfortable and confident being in the classroom setting without their presence. Our experienced teachers offer encouragement and a nurturing approach so that all children feel safe and secure within their classroom. Should a child need more support, the teachers can invite the grown-up partners back into the classroom.

LEVEL 3

2.5-3.5 YEARS

CHILD PARTICIPATION ONLY CLASS

This class meets for 3 hours and is meant to be child-led. Grown-up partners lead their children to the classroom and then excuse themselves from the class. Social and emotional confidence are important for growth in learning. This level encourages cooperative play allowing opportunities for sharing and negotiating. Self-expression is encouraged. Our teachers recognize that a classroom can be busy and active while also being focused and creative.

~ Home prepared lunch is eaten in the classroom
