Summary of Services

Families First Brooklyn is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families. We are located in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, adjacent to Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, and Red Hook.

Our services include:

Classes for children ages 0-5: We have classes in Art, Movement, Music, Science and Practically Preschool. Practically Preschool is a bridge to preschool, an enriching playgroup, and a gentle introduction to classroom time.

Playspace: We provide a regular opportunity for children to play together for in well equipped play rooms. Facilities include a safe, spacious play room, a baby playroom, library books, and an art and snack room with art supplies on hand.

Workshops For Parents & Caregivers: Individual workshops are planned throughout the year with expert, guest speakers on specific topics related to family life and child development. Topics include: CPR, Child discipline, Separation anxiety, Choosing a nursery school, Sibling rivalry, Nutrition, Sleep problems, Anxieties of parenting, Schools in District 15, Anger management. and more. If a workshop isn't running when you need it, economically-priced private sessions can often be arranged.

Support Groups: Small groups of women, men and couples meet weekly to discuss their common concerns about their children, parenting, careers or whatever is on their minds. Ongoing groups and special groups for new mothers are led by professional staff members.

Special Events: Throughout the year, we coordinate special events for Families First members as well as the entire Downtown Brooklyn community. Some of these events are: "Super Saturdays", Holiday parties and Open house events, Annual Spring Carnival, and Space rental for birthday parties.

Weekly Schedule: We are open 9AM-4PM Monday thru Thursday, 9AM-1PM Friday, hours vary on Saturday, and Sunday.

Yearly Calendar: We have 3 childrens classes sessions each year, Winter, Spring, and Fall.  Early registration starts about six weeks before the first day of classes.  Open registration starts about three weeks before the start of classes, and sessions run for 9 to 12 weeks.
